Revelation sees the throne and the Lamb

John sees God’s throne surrounded by worship and the Lamb receive the scroll, revealing his worthiness to open its seals.

Historical context

Throne rooms, imperial ceremony, hymns, and court imagery were familiar ways to express authority in the Roman world. Revelation redirects that imagery toward the Creator and the slain yet victorious Lamb rather than earthly empire.

Biblical significance

The vision places history under God’s rule and identifies Jesus’ sacrificial death as the basis for his authority. Worship from every creature and nation anticipates the universal scope of redemption and judgment.
