Historical context
Antioch was a major Syrian city where Greek, Aramaic, Roman, Jewish, and other cultures met through trade and imperial administration. A mixed community there required new patterns of fellowship, teaching, leadership, and mission.
Biblical significance
Antioch becomes a strategic center for the Gentile mission and for the church’s shared identity in Christ. The community’s fasting, prayer, and commissioning show mission as a work of the Spirit carried out through a local body.
